Turning the page on Craigmillar Book Festival 2011

The Craigmillar Book Festival is currently taking place until November 11th with events for all ages across the area.

Craigmillar Literacy Trust and partners are hosting a series of free events with leading Scottish authors, storytellers and experts for everyone to enjoy. The Festival will tie in with Children’s Book Week, National Poetry Day and the Scottish International Storytelling Festival and bring the excitement of these national events to people across Craigmillar

In a packed programme including author visits, talks, workshops and competitions, there’s something for all ages. Young people at schools and nurseries will have the chance to be inspired when they meet leading Scottish authors and illustrators. They’ll also be publishing their own book in a tie in with local publisher Gow Publishing and Scotprint Graphic Designers.

Storytellers will be bringing the generations together looking at local history stories and life ‘then and now’ with schoolchildren and senior citizens and also fun sessions with stories for parents and toddlers.
Craigmillar Books for Babies will be hosting stories, rhymes and songs for wee ones. Come along to hear all about ‘Amazing Animals’ with Mara Menzies at 10.30 on Saturday 24 September or ‘Halloween Fun’ with Eric Brennan at 10.30 on Saturday 29 October.

Professor Colwyn Trevarthen will be discussing how babies learn from stories at a public event on Wednesday 26th October from 4 to 5.30pm at The Moffat Early Years Campus, 30 Wauchope Terrace. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a parent or work with children – just book a place by ringing 621 2621 and enjoy a fascinating talk with some light refreshments available from 3.30pm
