Recycle at Craigmillar to give your favourite charity a Christmas boost
Have a green Christmas this year while supporting your favourite charity by visiting your local community recycling centre.
Craigmillar residents are being encouraged to recycle their waste at the unit in Old Dalkeith Road from now until Friday, December 16, where they will be given the opportunity to vote for their favourite charity to receive a Christmas donation.
The Craigmillar recycling centre is one of three around the Edinburgh area and is part of a council initiative.
All visitors to the site will be given a postcard with instructions on how to vote for their chosen charity, along with a free car or bike sticker.
The charity with the most votes will receive a donation from the council to help support their work - just in time for Christmas.
Councillor Robert Aldridge, environment leader, said: "Every tonne of waste that goes to landfill costs the Council £100 while recycling costs a small fraction of that.
"We've had great success in increasing local recycling over recent years but maintaining that gets harder all the time and so it's important we consider innovative ways to encourage all residents to dispose of their waste responsibly.”
The charity with the most votes will be announced through the council's website on Tuesday, December 20.
The Craigmillar community recycling centre will be open 8am - 7.30pm, Monday – Friday and 8am - 6pm, Saturday and Sunday.
