Plans announced to give new heart to Craigmillar

  • The planned new development will include a replacement for the current Craigmillar library

New plans to revamp the heart of Craigmillar have been announced, with a new library and council offices at the centre of the planned new developments.

The regeneration of the area will be boosted by council plans for the new three-story building which will be developed on a site off Niddrie Mains Road, facing onto the area where a new Town Square is set to be built.

The upper-floors of the building would be used to house council staff, who need to relocate due to the natural end of a number of leases on council offices. It is hoped that the new building will provide a "one-stop shop" for all council services in Craigmillar.

A new integrated community library will also be built on the ground floor, which will become a focal hub for the local community.

The new plans are designed to kick-start work in the area which has stalled as a result of the recession.

Johnni Stanton says

I cannot stress enough that CCA is NOT being given space for another Art Gallery. The one SPACE (the former Craigmillar School) is enough.

What we want to do is create a Heritage museum with Exhibition space for the 1,000s of pictures we are collecting from various sources, to show along with various artefacts collected from contributors to other exhibitions held in the past year.

What another great idea.

In only two small year

We, my family

Have been witness

To more than two....no less,

Renovations.

Restorations.

Integration.

Migration.

Expiration.

No more sink estate nation.

Craigmillar is proud to hold its name up high.

And just like a kite it will soon soar high.

Can we not just get along!

Who cares?????....just as long,

As they plan to build.

The soil needs tilled.

Craigmillar needs billed,

As up and coming!

So lets get it humming!!!!

After all we must agree,

And not fail to see,

The [former] community was killed,

By the breweries going.

Just like the Water of Leith flowing

WITHOUT THE DOCKS!
