Ex-council leader Aitken selected as Holyrood Labour candidate in Craigmillar

  • Ewan Aitken will stand for Labour in the Edinburgh Eastern constituency
Former leader of Edinburgh City Council Ewan Aitken has been selected as the Labour candidate for the newly-created Edinburgh Eastern constituency, which includes Craigmillar, at next year's Holyrood elections.

He will stand against Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill for the newly created seat, which was won by the SNP at the 2007 elections after former Health Minister Susan Deacon stood down.

Mr Aitken, a former parish minister and councillor for Craigentinny/Duddingston saw off competition from former Lord Provost Lesley Hinds and ex-councillor Shami Khan to win the nomination.
