Wauchope House

by chrissy mccormack

I grew up in Niddrie, we moved there in 1962 and lived at Niddrie Marischal Green, as kids we would play in the derelict old house in the woods and the old crypt and cemetery.

I remember about that time there was a fire in the stables and some horses were killed. Does anybody remember the places I metioned here?

I would love to hear the history of that place, my dad used to tell us it was the staff quarters for Wauchope House but that may be wrong.

I have been in Oz for 30 years now but I still like the history of the area so would be happy to hear of any one who can enlighten me, thanks.

Go to the Craigmillar Communiversity site and click on the link that takes you to the history section. It's got lots of information you'll appreciate ... and a good account of Wauchope House.

Then go sign up for an online copy of the Craigmillar Chronicle and Twin Peaks, the Arts Quarterly for all other news about Craigmillar today.

I am having a problem, I would like to email some friends here in OZ a few photos of Craigmiller Castle as I have often described it to them, how do I do this? Also, why does you're website not have a "search" button? It's so frustrating trying to find the info I need. Glad of your help Johnni, regards Chrissy.

Chrissy, type Craigmillar Castle into Google. There are literally thousands of entries with good pics of the castle.

You can usually copy them as long as it's for private use and not commercial, as well as crediting your source.

If you can't do that, come to ArtSpace and see what's in the Archive. We're happy to help out in any way we can. Emailing pix is very easy and we'll help you in that too.

Just phone 659 4759 and as for Louise or myself if I'm there.

Cheers.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
