The Diary of a Countryside Lady 18.11.11 @ 18.00

by Annamarie Causer

Aye here's the rub.

We waited.

We anticipated.

But at long last, yes we have,

an actual Community Hub.

Seventy five points to seventy four,

A really close call,

Well, that's for sure.

Long fought

for.

Long sought

after.

Needed, wanted, desired,

It certainly fired

Our fevered imaginations.

Just imagine our own designs

and unformulated creations.

These, of once we could only dream,

seemed at times almost a pipe dream.

A picture house; cinema to you and I.

The bingo for our granny,

Mine might even win the jackpot

for she sure is canny,

has a real knack, dab-hand.

It's grand

she has somewhere to go off a night..

An electronic site

to encompass all.

Old pics and photos, local goings on

but folks thats not all.

A function suite to cater for weddings.

Even midnight marriage feasts

or a Halloween ball,

if the function hall

is hired

out of hours.

Plenty of staff on hand.

No one, without exception is banned..

A cafe serving superb, upper class grub.

Savoury delights, coffee poured with real cream.

Homebake

muffins and mouth-watering cake.

Youth activities, maybe the brownies or scout and the cubs.

The monies and subs

won't see the kiddies out of pocket.

But a Creative Writing class

would be a class act,

and that's a logistical fact.

We'd sock it

to them.

Maybe find the next bestseller writer,

for the Craigmillains, if anything are fighters.

Well all I can say

on this November, fine sunny day,

The White House has changed

from all recognition

since the thirties.

Its been in disgiuse,

and under wraps,

with scaffolding

and green netting.

getting

a much needed lick of paint.

Now its been revealed,

every room, each storey,

restored to all its former glory.

Its regained its position

in the community.

We oohed and we ahhed, reeled

under the change.

Parc did transform

the well-heeled

shabby interior.

Looks nought like the swinging sixties

and far from the norm.

But in Craigmillar

amidst residents, it sure has caused a pleasant storm.

So ladies and gents fill out the form.

Tell the Community Alliance what you'd like.

Might even cover a disco

or three,

If anyone can provide a spare mike.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
