AN ODE TO THEN & NOW

1950's:

Decimation.

Declination.

Dilapidation.

Dereliction.

Decomposition.

Degradation.

Desperation

Decay.

Dampness.

Affray

No choice...only place to stay!

 

Though now some folk wouldst say

Less

Social disembowelling.

Human evisceration.

Obliteration.

Community spirit's

Hung out to dry.

Swamped and mired.

And thats no lie

Quote the retired.

Our Station

In life

Hung in the balance.

On the edge of a knife.

Social fabric ripped asunder,

Slice after slice.

Gone slowly under.

 

21C:

Restoration.

Regeneration.

Reclamation. 

Conservation.

Glorification.

Completion.

Sustainable

Renewable

Communities.

All new words

And In the '30's of old unheard. 

Sounding

Quite Absurd.

 

Yet Parc Development

Is meant

To be here. 

To transform

Enlight-

en.

Ignite.

Spark

New interest

Erase

The dark space

And haze

In old landmarks.

 

New housing,

Housing

Happier

Healthier

Wealthier

Humans.

No more keeping the 'pre war' cats 

For the inevitable ratting and mousing.
